What Your Latte Says About You |
![]() You don’t treat yourself very often. You find that indulging doesn’t jibe with your very disciplined life. You can be quite silly at times, but you know when to buckle down and be serious.Intense and energetic, you aren’t completely happy unless you are bouncing off the walls. You’re addicted to caffeine. There’s no denying it. You are responsible, mature, and truly an adult. You’re occasionally playful, but you find it hard to be carefree. You are complex and philosophical, but you are never arrogant. |

I am a bit aghast that tomorrow is already Friday. The week seems to have passed in a haze (actually the past two weeks since we were sick so much of the previous week). Monday we were in H-town, Tuesday we were home running around like usual, Wednesday we were in Atlanta, today we were running around like crazy, and tomorrow I am teaching and dealing with all kind of appointments and lessons. Poof! The week is gone. And this weekend I have to write a draft of an entirely new paper. I just don’t know where the time is going, but I do know that I need to get to work!
On a more vain note, this week I attempted to make an appointment to deal with my unhappy and neglected hair. I got the bad news that my stylist is not operating his salon anymore, and now I need to go make an appointment at an entirely new place (though I do know it is good because the owners’ son is in Brooke’s class). Still, it is not fun at all trying out a new stylist again. It seems like just when I get someone who knows my hair, one of us leaves.

I have been meaning to do think book meme that Profgrrrrl posted while I was in my sick phase. I tag anyone else who thinks it is fun and wants to give it a whirl. Here are the rules:
1. Pick up the nearest book.
2. Open it to page 123.
3. Find the fifth sentence/ phrase.
4. Blog the next four sentences/ phrases together with these instructions.
5. Don’t you dare dig your shelves for that very special or intellectual book.
6. Pass it forward to six friends.
Here I go:
“We know there are people who seem to be everywhere at times on the news, usually because their knowledge or insight allows them to be deemed an expert for a particular issue. In 1997, the second year of a remarkable run in technology stocks that had caught America’s fancy, I became that media expert for hire. I had run my firm for ten years by then, compiling a 22 percent return - 7 percent better than the S&P 500, the benchmark we all try to beat. That performance gave me legitimacy.”
I just picked any book from the nearest shelf on the closest set of bookshelves. This happens to come from Jim Cramer’s Confessions of a Street Addict.

We are now about 5 months away from moving to our new town. So, we are starting to get things in order. Yesterday we went took a day trip to H-Town to see the house we decided to rent, tour Brooke’s new school, check out the new TaeKwonDo academy, hunt down some leads on Luke’s preschool options, and drop in to visit the guys in my new department. The trip made us feel a little more excited about moving on to the next place in our lives.
And in case you were wondering, the toe is still purple but less swollen. I went back to TaeKwonDo today and got my third stripe. One more to go before testing for my yellow belt in about one month.

This morning at TaeKwonDo I earned a second stripe on my belt for knowing my form (this is essentially like learning a different dance routine for each belt level where you showcase your blocks, kicks, and punches). In the process, however, I injured my little toe. I wish I could say I have a good story like it happened while breaking too many pieces of wood or something. Unfortunately, I have a very badly sprained toe because I caught it in the tiny crack between two mats on the floor. In addition to being swollen and sore, the toe has taken on some lovely shades of blue and purple. Ouch. I guess I will be wearing Crocs for a while since just putting on my sneakers after class was painful.

I still do not feel good. Of course, my reaction is to get mad at the stupid virus and attempt to exorcise it from my body using the power of my mind. If ever a person could will herself better, it just might be me.
Edit: The reason this feels so dreadful and familiar finally hit me tonight…this is exactly how it feels when I have morning sickness. The never-ending queasy feeling in the stomach and the insane exhaustion. I told Scott that evidently we are no longer sick but just pregnant. (No, I don’t really think I am pregnant.) Does anyone remember that Cosby Show where the men end up pregnant and Cliff gives birth to a giant sandwich? I know, I am babbling and need to either try to get to work or get some rest this evening. This post seems to provide evidence in support of the need for rest hypothesis.

So, I was feeling really bad by Sunday night and ended up crashing on the couch after getting Brooke into bed at 7:40. I awoke several hours later realizing the grossness had overcome me, and I spent the next 24 hours mostly in bed in a semi-comatose state. I am up and moderately functional today, but I am still feeling weak and slightly ill. I am sad that I will have to miss TaeKwonDo today, but maybe I can pick up an extra class later this week. For now I will take the advice I would give someone else and take a day to build up my strength.

We got off to a good start Sunday Saturday morning with Brooke and Scott attending TKD and my completing grocery shopping with the kids. I was still feeling a little under the weather (I developed a touch of a cold on Friday), so I graded a little and rested a little after lunch. We went out for dinner at IHOP as Brooke had requested the previous night after seeing a commercial on tv. When we returned home, things took a turn for the worse. Scott came down with some sort of stomach bug which has kept him quarantined in the bedroom since. I slept on the couch, which is not bad but never as restful as the bed. Brooke had me up at 6:30 this morning making breakfast. We decided to head out for the 9:00 church service and left without umbrellas since it was only drizzling. About halfway to church the heavens had opened up and were dropping buckets on us. It was that heavy southern rain where you can’t see 2 feet in front of the car and the roads become rivers. I parked the car and carried a child in each arm and just ran for the church. Some nice people met us with umbrellas and helped us get to the door and also back to the car when it had not improved much after church. Luke has been grouchy, we are all sick of being cooped up, and I still feel tired and kind of sick. The sun is finally out and the kids are waking up, so maybe we will head out for a walk around the block or out somewhere before my head explodes. And I need to find something for these kids to do tomorrow because today Brooke was all like “I don’t have anything to do today?”
