My second day back at school was equally as daunting. My first class was Financial Theory 2. The class involves game theory, networks, and contracting. It is definitely going to be a lot of work and a huge challenge to learn a whole new set of skills, notation, and terms. We have done a little with game theory in our microeconomics class but nothing of this magnitude. I am sure I will game theory my brain into a corner during the first lecture.
My second class is a seminar in real estate. I took a short course in real estate while at George Washington, but this class really goes back and teaches you the background I don’t have. Since I am doing my dissertation in real estate investment and will likely end up teaching real estate at some point, I thought this class would be essential for me. I don’t think it will be difficult in the same way my other classes are, but it is more work than I thought and a whole world of new terminology.
After classes I went and spent nearly $300 on books. I am glad this is my last official semester as a student in classes purchasing expensive textbooks.

Today was my first day back in classes. Well, I just had one class, Advanced Econometrics. This class is seriously going to kick my butt. And today he announced that in 2 weeks we will start meeting for an extra 2 hours a week…just for the fun of it. Right. Plus, a summer at home with a newborn has turned my brain into a sleep deprived, worn out pile of mush. I feel retarded when I think about merely comprehending the course title.

1. Giving birth and recovering from major abdominal surgery. Painful and not fun.
2. Dealing with colic. Painful and not fun.
3. Hauling two kids on a plane to and from Pennsylvania by myself. Painful and not fun. But time in between plane trips was fun and mom was very helpful.
4. Spa Day. Fun.
5. Sick with various strange flu-like symptoms for over a week. Gross and not fun.
6. Sending my first-born off to start preschool. Emotionally painful and not fun, but now it is all good.
7. Typing this stupid list because tomorrow I start school again and am less than thrilled. I don’t feel rested at all from my break. I am starting the semester on empty and way behind on my research. It is going to be a loooong fall semester.

On Wednesday I finally used my birthday present from Scott and headed to the spa for a facial and deluxe mani/pedi. I have never done anything like that in my life, and it was fabulous. I left saying I would try harder to get back. Until about 4 am the next day when I realized I must have picked up a stomach virus there. I was very sick all morning and into the late afternoon. I was finally feeling better by bedtime and feel mostly better today. My stomach still feels a little gross, but I should be okay now.

Since Brooke is only two years old, we are limiting ourselves to a light summer reading list. I think we will wait until she is three to start her on Journal of Finance.

It just hit 100 degrees here today. Fabulous. I am definitely not cooking tonight. My husband says it is too hot for too long and is requesting that I look for a job at a school not in the deep south.
