My grandmother called this afternoon as she usually does to check up on how we are doing. I think she asked how school was going this week and I replied something about it being busy but better than last week. She asked about another friend of mine who is due with her first baby is due a couple of weeks after me. I replied that she is doing fine and definitely sounds like she is more energetic than I am (but who wouldn’t be not chasing after a crazy 2 year-old and staying up doing homework until 11 pm every night?). So, logically at this point the conversation progressed to my grandmother telling me that I should never have continued on with college after Delaware because it makes me too tired. Huh? And of course, it then makes sense that I will be so tired after finishing my Ph.D. that I won’t want to do anything else for the rest of my life. Huh? I was honestly so lacking in comprehension of the argument that I could say nothing. How do you reply to something so illogical and bizarre?
So, for anyone out there contemplating graduate school, don’t do it! You will be tired, and the education will make you lazy. I may be the most educated person on public assistance in a couple of years if this comes to fruition. I’ll say hello to the less educated and more well rested as I pass by them in the line at the soup kitchen.

The past week was a really bad one for me. Teaching all day on Monday is getting to be rough. My feet are swollen, I am tired, and I have a hard time standing for 3 hours. By the time I got home on Monday afternoon, I was as close to collapsing as I have been in a long time. I could not rest for long, however, because Tuesday morning I had a doctor’s appointment, and in the afternoon I had to give a presentation in my corporate finance seminar class. Tuesday was not restful either because Wednesday I had my econometrics mid-term and handed in my first replication paper for econometrics. Thursday is nothing more than a blur, and Friday we were busy dealing with checking out a new car for Scott and my being at school Friday morning and most of the afternoon. This was one of those weeks which is crazy at best and is debilitating when you are 33 weeks pregnant.
The good news? I survived and can cross my 3rd presentation and mid-term off my list of things to complete. The bad news? There is no time to rest because there is a take-home portion of the econometrics mid-term to complete and another paper that I needed to start weeks ago.
