From time to time I get two or three free moments to browse some blogs. It seems like everyone has been complaining lately about this or that. I understand that many people view their blogs as a place to vent their thoughts and feelings, but I started to feel like enough was enough of all the complaining. So, I thought I would write and let you know that I have nothing to complain about. Really. The semester is winding down, and that is always a joyous time. I am done giving presentations, I only have one more class to teach next week, and I only have one paper and problem set to finish before finals start. My nausea and extreme exhaustion from the first trimester are history and have been replaced by my normal level of exhaustion. Christmas is coming, and we are going to Disneyworld in about a month. Although it has been disgustingly warm in Alabama lately, they say next week might get very cold and even bring snow flurries! And thus far nobody in our house has been sick. Nothing to complain about at all.

Things that I am thankful for this year: My wonderful husband and daughter and our new baby arriving in 2006, my terrific parents, my grandparents and the fact they have lived another year, all of my friends near and far, our successful business, the chance to keep going to school and working towards the career I want, e-mail, finally starting to work our way out of the debt hole, another semester is almost over and I haven’t had a breakdown yet, all the men and women of our Armed Forces and their families who sacrifice so much each day so the world can be a better and safer place, Bella’s making it to her 9th birthday, drawstring waisted pants, pumpkin pie, turkey, and the Lord’s continued faithfulness and blessings making themselves known in our lives daily.
Happy Thanksgiving!

Mondays are always tough for me. I teach all morning, have a macroeconomics class, and then stay at school working until Brooke is done napping and ready for me to come home. Sometimes it makes for a long, exhausting day. Today was one of those days. In addition, it was raining and my lunch had fallen on the ground about 20 feet from my office as my wet paper lunch bag gave up its cohesion. Get the idea that it wasn’t my best day? But then I got an e-mail from Scott and Brooke along with this picture showing me what Brooke had been doing this morning. It totally brightened my day.

File this under “What in the World are Southerners Thinking?” for me. I enjoy looking around church on Sunday mornings to see what the other women and children are wearing. Brooke always looks adorable, and I always look a little underdressed for church in Alabama (mostly because I am pregnant and fat and have nothing to wear). The little girls all wear these enormous bows in their hair. Brooke’s are miniscule in comparison. This Sunday I saw a most frightening sight, however, in the attire of two little boys. First, there was a little boy about 5 years old who was wearing plaid pants and a blouse. Yes, a blouse. He had on a short-sleeved white blouse with a peter pan collar. I felt so bad for the boy looking like such dork. Of course, at least he was in good company with another girly looking boy about 3 years old. He was dressed in overalls that truly should not be worn by any boy over the age of 1. They looked something like the picture below only instead of a monkey they had some smocked scene across the front. The moral of the story? Dress a boy in girly blouses and silly overalls before he turns one. After that, please dress him like a boy. For example, boy on right: acceptable. Boy on left: silly.

My little girl turned two on Friday, and it was a full on two days of celebrating the event. On Friday morning we took her to the Birmingham Zoo, which she enjoyed much more than she did back in May when we last took her. We opened presents in the afternoon upon our return home and then took her out for dinner. Saurday morning we left to spend the day in Jackson with Scott’s family. Brooke had a blast at her party, but we did’t return home until 10:30 at night. I am exhausted…and Scott’s birthday is tomorrow! I am really ready for this semester to be finished so I can get some rest…both physically and emotionally.

This past week was really tough. With Halloween, 2 problem sets due, a seminar presentation, and an exam…well, I collapsed on Friday night and Saturday night too. To make matters worse, my seminar professor decided to be a complete jerk to me while I was presenting. Nobody really knows what he wants from these presentations, and for some reason he decides to make a point every single time I am giving a presentation (well, minus one time where he said I did well…but I did nothing different from this time). I would say that I am good at letting things roll off my back, but I am not sure if that is entirely true. I definitely don’t let it show that he is getting under my skin, but I will hold a grudge against him the rest of my life. Is that bad?
At least at the end of this week we have Brooke’s birthday, which should be a lot of fun. And there are only about 4.5 weeks of school left.

My memories of Halloween are of pumpkin picking, trick-or-treating, parties, parades, and Michael Myers movies. I don’t remember being bone tired from Halloween, but I now appreciate how exhausting it is for parents to arrange for all of this fun. And I know it will only get crazier with two kids, their friends, and more activities involved. I had Halloween Hangover last night and had to fall into the bed not long after Brooke. The important point is that Brooke had a wonderful Halloween filled with candy, games, parties, balloons, and fun. So, I guess that in the end it is all worth it.
